Abandoned African American Cemeteries

During my time with Fresh Take Florida at the University of Florida, I worked on a series of investigative articles about abandoned African American cemeteries across the state. This award-winning series looked at the effects on communities, families, politics and history.

These stories were featured in a number of publications including the Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, Florida Politics, Tampa Bay Times, the Sun Sentinel and various Florida TV stations.

• 2022 Florida Society of Professional Journalists, Second Place for Best Coverage of Underrepresented Communities for "Historic White, Black Cemeteries Only Blocks Apart Tell Very Different Stories"

• 2022 Florida Society of News Editors, First Place in Enterprise Writing for "Historic Black Cemeteries"
